Engine Oils that You Can Use for Isuzu Trooper 4JX1 Engine

Zic x7 5W30 Diesel Engine Oil
It was said that Isuzu Trooper having a 4JX1 is the most sensitive engines of the Trooper series. It's injector is faulty especially during the early release. However, after years of use, it boils down to the maintenance.

So here are a couple of facts that you have to take note:
1. If you have a 4JX1 engine, it is very sensitive to the engine oil that you are using.
2. Proper maintenance is needed for this engine just like any other engines.

Most complaints that I have seen with this type of Isuzu Trooper is the oil used. So what are the engine oils that can be used?

The requirements can be found in the dipstick of your engine. According to one of the trusted friend and 4JX1 user from our club "The 4JX1 requires a minimum API (American Petroleum Institute) diesel engine grade of CD and viscosity of 5W30 or 10W30."

I want to make it clear that so far as of this writing, the only engine oil that I have tried is the BESCO 10W30 API-CD Grade.

In some of our discussions, some of the most experienced mechanic advised that in leu of BESCO 10W30 in can which quite hard to find these days, and also expensive, try to find engine oils that's within 5W30 and 10W30 fully synthetic oil having a CI grade.

Also, it is important to note that some Isuzu Trooper owners in our club are already using "Zic x7 Fully Synthetic 5W30" diesel engine oil which is a lot cheaper than that of BESCO. It's also advised that you change oil every 5000kms when in city daily use.

According to one user, he is using Zic x7 10W30 because it is easier to find and is also working great.

Some other oils that has been tested with feedbacks from our trooper club:

- Besco (in can): smoky in my unit
- Multi Z gray 10w30: smoky
- Hyundai acea C3 5w30: not good
- Aisin 5w30 : expensive but worth it
- Shell HX7 : expensive
- Mobil 10w30 diesel: expensive and smooth
- Motul CRDI 5w30: same as mobil but is no longer in the market.

What about 4JG2?

Basically, nearly all engine oils that works on 4JX1 works on 4JG2. But here are some additional oils that is confirmed used by some of our members:

- Delo Gold Sports 10W30 with CI-4 rating.

  1. Hey bud! Been a fan! Thanks for doing thiz. When i firat got into the "10w-30 oil hunt" this is the first thing that i've read. Certainly helped me to choose a better oil. Anyway, now i'm Using Mag1 10w-30 Diesel. I'm loving this product. Its cheaper than the Multi Z, but performs like Mobil1. Smooth and minimal smoke. 👍

  2. I would like to note since every trooper owner is misleading in using the correct diesel engine oil for thier 4jx1 engine. 4jx1 engine is a very sensitive engine. The correct oil pressure is really a significant factors for its operation. Right pour point and viscosity of oil is necessary for proper injection of fuel oil. And it is SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40 is the correct engine oil to be used to attain the pressure. This grade of oil is based on winter season. In tropical country like Philippines, the best grade to use is SAE 5W-40. It will out perform the SAE 5W-30. Grade 5W-40 provide the best lubrication and proper oil film on moving parts and desired pressure to drive the injectors. So it is not the Grade 10W-30 is suitable for 4jx1 engine which is mistakenly used by trooper owners.

    1. 5W-30 or 10-W30 is the recommended engine oil for 4JX1, not -W40. It will ruin your Turbo. 10-W40 could work if you have 4JG2 BUT NOT GOOD for 4JX1.
